How to get Tifa and Barret's outfits in FFXIV

Tifa and Barret’s outfits are the real stars in Final Fantasy 14‘s event in the Keybound Brawlers, a new collaboration with Final Fantasy 7. Unlike Cloud’s outfit, which is based on the Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children design and has been in the game for ages, these two are based on the FF7 remake project. To get them and many other FF7-themed cosmetics and items, you must survive the typing brawls and earn a special currency.

Below, you can find all the information you need to learn how to get Tifa and Barret’s outfits in FFXIV.

How to get Tifa and Barret’s outfits in FFXIV

You can only obtain Tifa and Barret’s outfit by participating in the Keybound Brawler event, which runs from Oct. 28, until the release of Final Fantasy 14‘s patch 8.0 with the Evercold expansion (which should be in January).

The only prerequisites for participating in the event are reaching level 15, completing one of the following main scenario quests: “The Gridanian Envoy,” “The Ul’dahn Envoy,” or “The Lominsan Envoy”, and unlocking the Gold Saucer. As one might expect given the name, you also need a keyboard to play this game.

By winning matches during the event, you earn the Manderville Gold Saucer Credits (MGC), which you can exchange for the outfits at the MGC Trader in the Keybound Square. This currency is different from the Manderville Gold Saucer Points (MGP), which you obtain by participating in the regular Gold Saucer’s activities.

To purchase all four pieces of Tifa’s outfit, you will need 1,380 MGC, and for Barret’s five pieces, you’ll need 1,570 MGC (I’m not considering both the Avalanche Brawler’s Earring and the Avalanche Leader’s Earring in these sums). If you complete all three waves of a brawl, you can earn from 200-340 MGC depending on your final score. This means that you will need six to 12 matches to earn enough credits to purchase all the pieces of both outfits.

Keep in mind that the outfits are gender locked when deciding which ones to prioritize.

How to start the Keybound Brawler event in FFXIV

While the Keybound Brawler event is taking place, you can start it by traveling to the Gold Saucer in Thanalan and talking to the Catlike Mammet (5.4, 7.0) to accept the “Keyward Bound” side quest.

Next, you will need to talk to W’zazanh at the Wonder Square (6.1, 7.3) to enter the Keybound Square. Once inside, interact with the Magitype Master behind the counter to complete the quest. Since there are no crystals to teleport to the area, you will always need to talk to W’zazanh to return the Keybound Square in the future.

To play Keybound Brawler matches, you need to talk to the Keybound Registrar NPC (5.8, 6.0). While it’s possible to queue as a group, you can also go solo and wait for the game to find party members for you.

Each match is divided into three waves, during which enemies will try to approach the barrier in front of your party. If they reach it, enemies will attack the barrier, lowering your party’s HP bar. To attack them, you must correctly type the words that appear above them. Pay attention because, although you don’t need to distinguish between uppercase and lowercase, both punctuation and accents count. If enemies deplete your party’s HP bar, you will fail the brawl.

By simply participating in a match, you will earn some MGC, but your score and the number of waves you survive affect the final amount. If you complete the last wave, in addition to MGC and MGP, you also earn a keybound coffer. These can contain various rewards, from food to weapons like the Adamant Rod.
