Elden Ring movie has a budget of nearly $200 million

A24’s live-action Elden Ring movie is reportedly set to cost almost $200 million, making it the most expensive film the studio has ever made.
The figure comes from a new report in the Wall Street Journal, and suggests there’s been a big jump from earlier reports in April, which then put the budget at “well over” $100 million.
For context, A24’s priciest film to date, Marty Supreme, reportedly cost around $70 million, a step up from Alex Garland’s Civil War at about $50 million.
The WSJ’s piece is less about Elden Ring than about A24’s growing clout in Hollywood and the rivals now chasing its success.
“They’re a Goldilocks company. Just the right amount of people doing just the right amount of things,” Telluride Film Festival director Julie Huntsinger told the paper (thanks, IG).
Garland is writing and directing the adaptation, which is being shot for IMAX and is due in cinemas on 3rd March 2028. Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, and Nick Offerman are among the cast.
FromSoftware’s open-world action RPG launched in February 2022, with lore written by Game of Thrones author George RR Martin.
Production on Alex Garland’s Elden Ring movie – which is, at least partially, a prequel to FromSoftware’s RPG – seems to be progressing well. Even Dung Eater is seemingly in, so fans are expecting a rather faithful adaptation. Now, the latest set video suggests some low-level enemies will show up too.
Over the summer, a video leak of the real set Conwy Castle, North Wales. A few familiar human soldiers – probably before the Shattering occurs – were atop the walls and towers, guarding the location and patrolling. And back in April, North Wales Pioneer teased Alex Garland’s feature would shoot there.
