Best Guns in the Modern Warfare 4 Beta

The best guns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 are exactly what you should be using if you want to be part of the meta right now. This is one of the best Call of Duty multiplayer experiences in a long time, and with a vast array of guns to choose from, you can dominate the skill-based matchmaking and improve your kill-death ratio.

So without further ado, here are the five best guns in the Modern Warfare 4 meta right now.

Update (Oct. 29): We’ve updated this guide with the best guns following the game’s full launch.

Best guns in the MW4 meta

Here are the five best guns in the Modern Warfare 4 meta right now, with more detail about each further below:

  1. Han 86
  2. M4
  3. ISO Nightshade
  4. Vel 46
  5. Mosin-Nagant

Han 86 (assault rifle)

I’d say believe it or not, but if you’re a Call of Duty veteran, you’ll know the first assault rifle in the game is often one of the very best weapons overall, and it’s no different in Modern Warfare 4. The Han 86 is versatile, it has a rapid rate of fire, and since it’s also dropped by most of the enemies in DMZ, it’s super easy to level up quickly.

Our recommended Han 86 build improves the gun’s accuracy, while maintaining its handling and mobility, so it can compete up close and at range. The best attachments for this include the FSS Fireline Grip, Hanbit RK8 406mm barrel, and Meiko L9P-Fold stock.

M4 (assault rifle)

What’s better than one versatile assault rifle? Two versatile assault rifles! The M4 will be a much more familiar face to any longtime Call of Duty players, because it’s consistently one of the best guns in every single game it features in. It’s not unlocked by default in Modern Warfare 4 but you do get your hands on it very early at just level 14.

The best M4 build caters to a slightly longer range than the Han 86, focusing a little less on mobility and more on accuracy, making it a perfect fit for a slower-paced play style. The FSS IS300 heavy silencer, SA LAZ-500 laser, and Demo Dozer stock are essential for this, as it becomes akin to a laser beam.

ISO Nightshade (SMG)

The first of two submachine guns on the list of the best guns in Modern Warfare 4, the ISO Nightshade is a pure monster. As far as SMGs go, it has relatively decent accuracy by default, so combined with its incredibly impressive mobility and handling skills, we simply want to buff the former more without impacting the latter too much.

As a result, you should focus on attachments that improve the recoil, but we want to maintain its abilities in close-quarters combat. Once again, the FSS Fireline Grip is a no-brainer, and you should pair that with the TA Lightning R3M flash hider muzzle, the ZLR Carbon-900 long barrel, and the Schlager Visiv-5 laser.

Vel 46 (SMG)

If your goal is to solely sprint around and cause chaos, killing enemies up close and personal, the Vel 464 should be your SMG of choice. While this could also, in theory, be kitted out to compete at mid-range, your best bet is to focus on close-quarters combat, especially firing from the hip.

For this, opt for the V46 Vert-Tac vertical grip, the QFL-S4.5 laser, the RV-B V2 Barrel, and the Vel 46 Extended tactical stock. These will all work together to improve mobility and handling. Stick on the 60 Round Drum to accompany them and you’ll have enough ammo to deal with any number of enemies in front of you.

Mosin-Nagant (marksman rifle)

Marksman rifles are interesting because they can either be treated like shotguns, picking enemies off up close, or you can stick a scope on them and use them like a sniper rifle, killing enemies from all the way across the map. Or, if you like, you can combine the two and run around quickscoping foes.

Since Modern Warfare 4 is so fast-paced, the former is your best option, and you can always add a scope to it if you wish. The Mosin S762 Barrel is vital, as is the Schlager Visiv-5 laser and the TV-Light 7-Bolt, because improving the rechambering speed is important when you need to relentlessly pick enemies off. We’d also recommend running two of No Stock, a larger magazine, or an optic of your choice, depending on if you want to go down the quickscoping route.
