If you find all the ribbons in the Village of Lu you will complete an important Phantom Blade Zero side quest: “Young Mistress.” They were left by Mu Xiaokui, daughter of Soul’s master. He has known her since she was a child, and they have established a bond that you can only truly understand by hearing the short dialogues that play whenever you collect a ribbon. In addition, completing this side quest also makes the final boss fight in the area more challenging.
Here’s where to find all the ribbons in Phantom Blade Zero to complete the “Young Mistress” side quest.
[Ed. note: This guide contains light spoilers for the Village of Lu segment, like the names of bosses.]
All ribbon locations in Phantom Blade Zero
When you reach the Village of Lu, you automatically start the “Young Mistress” side quest. To complete it, you must find the five ribbons left in this area by Mu Xiaokui. When you get close to one, you can hear the sound of the bells tied to it. Completing the “Young Mistress” quest adds an extra phase to the Village of Lu’s final boss fight. Defeating the modified version of the boss rewards you with the Fiend Saws swords in addition to the Wild Oriole Sword, which you obtain by beating the regular version of the battle.
Although you don’t need to find the ribbons in a specific order, you must be sure to complete the quest before the final fight. If you reach the Puppet Testing Grounds area without finding all five ribbons, go look for the missing ones.
Below, you’ll find the location of each ribbon and a short explanation of how to reach it. The list has been ordered according to the most likely path you will take as you explore the Village of Lu.
Ribbon #1
You can’t miss the first ribbon, as Soul will stop and interact with it as soon as you get near the bridge leading to the Well of the Three Puppets. To reach the bridge, after fighting Zhuo Bi, the Gatekeeper, climb the stairs instead of entering the area with the blue flower. Then, you will find this first ribbon — and start the “Young Mistress” mission — tied to a tree.
Ribbon #2
This ribbon is tied to the covered bridge near the Well of the Three Puppets. However, the bridge is blocked by threads, and to remove them, you must defeat a specific enemy located in the lake beneath the bridge.
To reach the exact location, start at the Zhang’s Hideout (Village of Lu) bell and use the path to the right of the hole in the ground to slide down. Then, go to your left toward the building with an altar and a blue flower. Break the gate beside it.
You will enter the area where some Black Water Disciples are patrolling. Fight them and defeat the Puppet Spearman who’s inside the upright coffin. Once it’s dead, the threads blocking the bridge will disappear. Then, return to the bridge and jump to the other side to find the ribbon.
Ribbon #3
You will inevitably come across this third ribbon, as it’s tied to the main quest. In the arena beyond the Statue Grounds Entrance bell, you will fight Master Bi Yuan of the Tianxuan Sect boss. Defeat them, and The Lady Grounds bell will appear. You will find the ribbon tied to it.
Ribbon #4
The fourth ribbon is in front of the Temple of Blue Fireflies. To reach it, you must take a bridge beside the locked door near the Well of the Three Puppets. Keeping moving forward until you reach the bell in front of the building. To the left side of the temple’s entrance, you will find the ribbon tied to a tree.
Ribbon #5
You can only find the last ribbon after progressing through the main quest and unlocking the Well of the Three Puppets. Once it’s open, jump into it and follow the only available path to reach the Beneath the Well bell. Enter the area to the left of the bell to find a wooden bridge. At the beginning of it, you will see the ribbon on the right side, tied to a stick.
